Why the first move has to be physical

“Start the report” is not an action. Your hands cannot do it. There’s no muscle involved in “starting” — which is why you can sit in front of it for an hour and never begin. “Open the document” is different: it’s one motion, it takes two seconds, and you already know how.

That’s the whole trick on this page. The task doesn’t get easier — it gets smaller, until the first piece is something a hand can do. After that, momentum does what willpower couldn’t.
