60 Minute Timer
Set for 60 minutes. Press start — it rings when the time is up.
This timer runs while the tab is open. If you need it to go off when your phone is in your pocket — that part needs the app.
An hour is longer than it feels
An hour is the unit people reach for when they do not want to think about duration. “Give me an hour” usually means “I do not know”, and the estimate is rarely tested, because an hour is also the unit we forget to measure.
Watching one pass in full is a strange experience for exactly that reason. Sixty minutes of undivided attention on a single task is longer than most workdays contain in one piece, and it is usually enough to finish something you had mentally filed as an afternoon’s work.
The hour is also the unit of billing, of rent, of classes — we buy and sell it constantly and estimate it badly. Timing a few of your own hours is the cheapest way to find out which of your afternoons were actually four hours of work and which were one hour spread thin.
