Online Timer
Type any time and press start. It rings on time — even if you switch to another tab.
Free from Ticka — the reminder app that rings like an alarm, even on silent. Close this tab and the timer stops. On your phone, Ticka rings even on silent. App Store → Google Play → App Store → Google Play →
A timer in a tab is good at your desk. For the oven, the laundry or a pill in an hour, a phone in your pocket is better — and Ticka rings even with the phone on silent.
Why many online timers ring late in a background tab
Start a timer, switch to your email, and come back to find it went off a minute late — or not at all until you clicked the tab. That isn’t your imagination. To save battery, Chrome and other browsers slow down the scripts of pages you aren’t looking at; after a few minutes in the background, a page may only get to run its timers about once a minute.
A timer that waits for its script to wake up and then plays a sound inherits that delay. This one doesn’t ask the script: when you press start, the sound is booked ahead of time on the page’s audio clock, which the browser does not slow down. The numbers on screen may catch up a moment later; the bell won’t.
Two limits no web page can get around. If you close the tab, the timer is gone. If the computer goes to sleep — the lid shut, or a laptop that dozes on battery — nothing on it will ring until it wakes. For anything that has to reach you away from the desk, use your phone.
Questions
How long can the timer run?
Up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. For days or weeks, a countdown to a date fits better.
Can I bookmark a time?
Yes. After you start, the address changes to something like ticka.day/online-timer/#25m. Open that link and the timer is already set.
Will it ring if my screen locks?
While the timer runs, the page asks the device to keep the screen on. If the computer sleeps anyway, it won’t ring until it wakes.
Is it free?
Yes — no account, no ads in the way, nothing to install.
