9 Minute Timer
Set for 9 minutes. Press start — it rings when the time is up.
Free from Ticka — the reminder app that rings like an alarm, even on silent. Close this tab and the timer stops. On your phone, Ticka rings even on silent. App Store → Google Play → App Store → Google Play →
This timer runs while the tab is open. If you need it to go off when your phone is in your pocket — that part needs the app.
Nine minutes: the length of a snooze
For decades the snooze button on alarm clocks bought nine minutes, and the iPhone kept that default for most of its history. The usual explanation is mechanical — old clock gears could count to nine more easily than to ten — but whatever the reason, nine became the size of “just a bit longer”.
Snoozing is a reminder that does not give up: it comes back until you deal with it. That is the useful idea hiding in the button. Most reminders fire once and disappear, and the thing they were about disappears with them.
A nine-minute timer is a deliberate snooze for anything that is not quite ready — dough resting, paint drying, a reply you want to cool down on before you send it. Short enough to come back to, long enough to let it settle.
To wake at a set time instead, the online alarm clock keeps the nine-minute snooze.
